JACKSON, Tenn. — A West Tennessee woman is accused of sexually exploiting a 6-year-old girl by drawing on the child’s body. Kayla Murphy, 21, appeared Friday before Jackson Judge Blake Anderson, formally charged with simple assault by offensive touching against a 6-year-old girl. “When the child is used for someone else’s pleasure, the child is then confused on whether they’re a human or an object,” said Cinda Gee with the Wo/Men’s Resources and Rape Assistance Program. Court documents reveal Murphy drew at least seven tattoos on the young girl with a marker. Witnesses told investigators some of the tattoos were sexual and drawn on the girl’s private parts. “Circles drawn around the girls nipples,” documents state. Another tattoo was drawn around the girl’s belly button and pubic area, according to the affidavit. Gee said this act of sexual exploitation could be incredibly traumatic for the girl. “There’s almost nothing more damaging, even if the childhood sexual abuse is relatively mild,” she said. It’s unclear how Murphy knows the victim. Court records show the tattoos were drawn without consent from the victim’s mother. Gee said it’s crucial for parents to listen if young children and teens make allegations against possible predators. Murphy’s bond was set at $1,000. Records from the TBI reveal she has a prior criminal history in Hardin County for DUI, criminal impersonation and probation violations.
