Man accused of fleeing in car, nearly hitting officer

JACKSON, Tenn. — A man’s alleged attempt to drive away from police lands him in court on assault and evading charges. Michael Lipford is accused of driving away Thursday as officers approached his car after they saw it parked during a foot patrol near North Missouri Street, according to an affidavit. When officers approached the car, Lipford started to drive away and then ignored orders by police to stop and accelerated the car while driving toward an officer, nearly hitting him, the document states. Lipford drove about 100 yards until the vehicle became stuck, according to the affidavit. Police say he then fled on foot until they were able to apprehend him about 50 yards from the car. Lipford is charged with aggravated assault and evading by motor vehicle. He is being held in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
