Man indicted in deadly 2013 shooting

JACKSON, Tenn. — A cold-case investigation has led to a murder charge in a 2013 homicide. Autonius Merriweather was indicted Monday on one count of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Deandre Thomas, according to a release from the Jackson Police Department. Thomas, 26, was shot multiple times Nov. 5, 2013, as he walked out of an apartment at Lincoln Courts, according to the release. The police department’s newly formed Cold Case Unit pursued leads, conducted interviews and had physical evidence tested, which led to the indictment, the release states.
