UNION CITY, Tenn. — A fire at a Union City plant evacuated the company Monday afternoon. The Union City Fire Department responded to the fire around 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Greenfield Properties Company off of U.S. Highway 51. Fire officials said it was most likely a dust fire, however they are unsure of the cause. They said they were able to put the flames out within 20 minutes. “Basically they had what you would call a dust fire, kind of like a grain fire, where there is dust in the air, and there was fire flashed inside the hopper,” said Fire Chief Kelly Edminson of the Union City Fire Department. No one was injured during the fire, and officials are unsure of how much damage was done to the facility.
