Union City man accused of assaulting grandfather

UNION CITY, Tenn. — A man faces an aggravated assault charge after police say he injured his grandfather during a fight. Officers were in the 100 block of South Fourth Street when they heard what appeared to be a fight in the backyard of a residence, according to a report from the Union City Police Department. Police say they broke up the fight between Joe Austin Davis and his grandfather. The grandfather had a severe laceration to his eye, according to the report. The man told police Davis punched him in the head, threw a candle holder at him and then struck him in the face with a three-wheeled scooter, which is what caused the laceration, the report states.
