JACKSON, Tenn. — Hundreds gathered at the Jackson Fairgrounds for the 5th annual “Books of Madison County” fundraiser. Best-selling author Frances Mayes spoke at the event and is the author of well-known books such as “Under the Tuscan Sun” and “Under Magnolia.” Organizers of the fundraiser said they hope big-name authors will encourage parents to read more with their children. “She [Mayes] fits right in, I think, with what we are trying to accomplish with the Library Foundation, is to promote people to get that book, get out and read and share with your children and so forth,” said Elaine Christian, founder of “Books of Madison County.” The fundraiser for “Books of Madison County” raised $30,000 Tuesday evening, with the proceeds going toward the Jackson-Madison County Library.
