Man accused of stealing debit card, trying to use it in mall

JACKSON, Tenn. — A man was in city court Tuesday on auto burglary and identity theft charges. Nicholas Adam Barker is accused of stealing a wallet from a man’s vehicle outside the Old Hickory Mall and later trying to use the man’s debit card at Best Buy, according to an affidavit. The victim reported the theft Sept. 7, telling officers someone had burglarized his vehicle and taken his wallet containing a Regions Bank debit card, his driver’s license and Social Security card. He later found that someone had tried to use the debit card that same day at Best Buy in the mall. Police say Barker can be seen in security video trying to buy a phone card from the store with the stolen debit card. Barker is charged with auto burglary, identity theft and theft under $500. His bond is set at $30,000.
