PARIS, Tenn. — Henry County Sheriff Monte Belew is proposing a new plan for security upgrades at the courthouse. According to Belew, it is the oldest functional courthouse in Tennessee. Belew’s proposal includes more security cameras, panic alarms and even an onsite resource officer during business hours. “With all the recent events that we’re all seeing across our country, we at the Henry County Sheriff’s Office want to make our courthouse even more secure than it is,” Belew said. According to Belew, the resource officer would not work exclusively at the courthouse. The deputy would be utilized in various parts of Henry County. “This resource officer is much like a school resource officer,” Belew said. “But he will be assigned to the Henry County Courthouse, our county annex building and the downtown area.” According to Belew, the estimated cost for these upgrades is around $40,000.
