JACKSON, Tenn. — Days of creative planning and hours of careful building are finally done. This year’s “Canstruction” by RIFA is finally ready to be seen. “We are here to honor the teams who have taken the time to build the structures,” RIFA’s Lisa Tillman said. Teams from all across Jackson took part in creating sculptures, all designed entirely with cans that will then be donated to RIFA to help feed the hungry. “All of the money we raise here will go back into the ministry programs. That includes our soup kitchen and our Snack Backpack program,” Tillman said. It’s the biggest fundraiser of the year for RIFA. This year’s event featured award-winning Christian artist Steven Curtis Chapman, who says the fit between RIFA and his beliefs is perfect. “There’s a real common thread that runs through them,” Chapman said. “I think it’s the work of RIFA and the work my family and I do with orphans, and it really comes from the words of Jesus who says whatever you do for one of the least of these you do for me.” Chapman said every performance is special to him no matter where, when or how. He said it’s the music that speaks to the soul and delivers the message. “There’s still something that happens, and music can connect to the soul,” Chapman said. “It goes to places that unspoken words can’t go. That’s what I believe is a part of the gift God has given us.” RIFA’s goal was to reach $100,000. The final numbers will be announced in the coming days. Bodine Aluminum was the winner of Best in Show for Canstruction 2015.
