JACKSON, Tenn. — A registered sex offender is charged with propositioning a juvenile Friday as the minor walked along Muse Street. The juvenile flagged down a Jackson police officer and told him he was walking along Muse Street when a man driving a red car, later identified as Darrius Deziah Smith, stopped and offered money in exchange for watching the juvenile masturbate, according to an affidavit. In an effort to get Smith to leave, the juvenile told him he had friends in Muse Park who may be interested in the offer. The juvenile saw the red car leaving the park while he was talking to the officer, according to the affidavit. The officer performed a traffic stop on Smith, who was positively identified by the victim, the document states. Police say Smith showed the officer a State of Tennessee Probation card that showed him to be a sex offender. Court papers say Smith was placed on the sex offender registry in 2013 for solicitation to exploit a minor in Madison County and therefore is not allowed on the property of any public park. Smith is charged with soliciting sexual exploitation of a minor and violation of the sex offender registry.
