‘Remember Me Thursday’ event reflects on abandoned, forgotten animals

JACKSON, Tenn.-A world-wide event known as ‘Remember Me Thursday’ was held around the world. It is a time set aside to remember animals who have lost their lives without the benefit of a loving home. Here in West Tennessee, the group “Saving the Animals Together,” or STAT held this observance at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in downtown Jackson. Organizers said they want to bring hope and change for pets abandoned or forgotten. “Not everybody is going to be a rescuer, not everybody is going to foster animals, but everybody can do something to help,” said Kelli Appleton of STAT. According to the Humane Society, there are 3.4 million animals euthanized every year in the United States. Organizers said this was the first time a ‘Remember Me’ service was held in Madison county.
