JACKSON, Tenn. — Local energy officials are spending the week raising public awareness about the value of having a community-owned natural gas utility as part of National Public Natural Gas Week. The week is used to educate residents on the environmental and cost benefits of using natural gas. Officials at Jackson Energy Authority say having natural gas in our community is often one of those things we overlook that contributes to our quality of life. “A lot of time we take our public utilities for granted, whether it be electric, gas, water, whatever, and natural gas is one of those,” said Robert Mullins, manager of operations for JEA. “When you need gas, it is going to be available, provided by your local utilities.” There are more than 1,000 natural gas systems serving more than 5 million customers nationwide.
