Group assault in Dyersburg puts man in Memphis hospital

DYERSBURG, Tenn. — Police are looking into an early Sunday morning assault that sent a man to a Memphis hospital for surgery. Police were notified around 3:15 a.m. of an assault victim being treated at the Dyersburg Regional Medical Center emergency room, according to the Dyersburg Police Department. The victim, an 18-year-old male, was reportedly at a car wash a short time earlier at the intersection of Harrell Avenue and Shelby Drive when a group of people attacked him and a second unidentified victim he was with. The man was knocked to the ground and repeatedly stomped, kicked and punched over his entire body, resulting in serious injuries to his face and head, according to police. He was taken to Regional One in Memphis for surgery. The other victim had not been located as of when the report was made.
