MILAN, Tenn. — More than a hundred local outdoors men and their supporters gathered at the Armory in Milan, Tuesday evening. They shared a meal as they joined forces to fight hunger in West Tennessee. The evening served as a fundraiser for the non-profit group, Hunters Sharing the Harvest. The group’s mission is to share their bounty from deer hunting season with those in needs. Money raised will be used to help pay for the processing of the meat, which will then be given to food banks and needy organizations. Organizers said the night was all about helping others. “We just want them to have a good time and to know that they are helping people,” said Jay Black, president of Hunters Sharing the Harvest. “It’s a way that we as outdoors men can all give back to the community.” It’s estimated close to $10,000 was raised from the dinner and silent auction. In the last eight years, the group has donated more than 50,000 pounds of deer meat. That equals 150,000 meals for food banks in West Tennessee.
