WEST JACKSON, Tenn. — Many homeless men will now have a place to sleep during cold winter nights. The “Room in the Inn” is a program that seeks to help homeless men find shelter. The program connects homeless men with various churches, giving them a place to stay, warm food and cold showers. The program even gives the men the opportunity to fellowship with church members as well. Area Relief Ministries Housing Director Fred McKinnie said the program makes a big difference. “It impacts them not worrying about a place to sleep when it’s cold. They know they can come in and get a warm meal, and fellowship with churches that are providing them with shelter, ” McKinnie said. Many people utilize this program. Last year’s program helped over 200 people. This year’s program could help even more. This is the ninth season for the Room in the Inn program. Church volunteer David Russel said it’s all about giving people a helping hand. “I think they see that they are loved in this community, that they’re vital to this community. When there’s bad things that happen, there’s still a way out. There’s still people who care about them,” said Russel. The program first started in 2007 with about four churches. This year, over 40 churches are participating.
