Henry Co. teacher accused of illegal contact with 2 more minors

HENRY COUNTY, Tenn. — A Henry County High School teacher recently accused of unlawful sexual contact with a student is now facing more charges involving two more minors. Kevin Michael Smothers was charged Tuesday with the new charges, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office. The counts include statutory rape by an authority figure, soliciting the sexual exploitation of a minor-exploitation of a minor by electronic means, sexual battery by an authority figure and solicitation of a minor to commit statutory rape by an authority figure. Smothers was arrested at an appearance in General Sessions Court. After processing, he was released on his prior $100,000 bond, which he had made on prior charges. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 14. Smothers was first charged Oct. 27 with meeting an underage female student in September at which time unlawful sexual contact and solicitation took place, according to a release from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
