TBI still investigating deputy-involved shooting in Gibson Co.

TRENTON, Tenn. — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is still investigating a deputy involved shooting that left one man dead late Friday night. According to the TBI, deputies with the Gibson County Sheriff‘s Office responded to 26 Petty Lane in Trenton just before midnight Friday, after a man had made numerous threatening calls to 911. When deputies arrived, investigators said 52-year-old Michael Joseph Bartkiewicz came out of the home and pointed a weapon at the officers. Deputies then fired on Bartkiewicz, who was struck and later died at the scene. Investigators said no one else was injured in the incident. Susan Niland with the TBI said the weapon pointed at the deputies was a gun, however would not confirm how many shots were fired or how many officers were involved. The TBI said the investigation was started at the request of 28th District Attorney General Garry Brown and it is still ongoing.
