Man charged with attempted murder in weekend assault

JACKSON, Tenn. — A man appeared Monday in city court after police say he attacked and beat a woman, causing serious injuries including severe head trauma. Montre Davon Johnson is facing an attempted first-degree murder charge after allegedly attacking the woman around 11:30 a.m. Saturday at an Alexander Street residence, according to an affidavit. Police say Johnson beat the woman with a belt, hammer and PlayStation 2 game console. Officers say the woman’s grandchildren saw the attack. The woman had serious injuries including severe head trauma and cuts to her arm and leg, according to police. The woman was able to identify Johnson and also told investigators he attacked her because she sent a text message to another man.
