Task force sweep nets 64 arrests

JACKSON, Tenn. — Officers make 64 arrests this weekend in West Tennessee as more than a dozen departments work to get criminals behind bars. The violent crime and gang task force worked over the weekend to get illegal firearms, marijuana, cocaine and other drugs and paraphernalia off the streets of counties throughout the 26th and 28th district. Local alcohol and substance abuse centers such as Aspell Recover Center in Jackson say crimes like these affect more than just one person. “It’s a family disease. It’s a family problem,” said Richard Barber with Aspell Recovery Center. “It has such a negative impact on the community and it hurts everybody around them.” Aspell is currently in the process of building more houses to hold the nearly 80 people receiving alcohol and drug abuse treatment.
