Small Business Saturday for Jackson businesses

JACKSON, Tenn. — Hundreds of people hit the malls and major retailers to start chipping away at their Christmas lists, but the day after is all about shopping small. Small Business Saturday is a day where businesses across the country band together to promote shopping local. “We try and find things that are totally unique and different that you just don’t find anywhere see in Jackson like the precious moments the Thomas Kinkade and a lot of Gone With the Wind,” Dale Viars of Southern Magnolia said. He has owned his shop for 22 years. “We see probably a lot more on the Black Friday than we normally do but we don’t celebrate the particularly small business because we are small business everyday,” he said. Carol Taylor owns the Hot Mess Boutique and she said she offers special items that people from big cities travel to Jackson for. “Believe it or not there are people who come to Jackson everyday from Memphis everyday of the week they come here to shop to get away from the big city,” Taylor said. Art in the Village offers different pieces from around 30 local artists, and for this holiday season, finding a special piece won’t be hard there. “It’s so unique every item is just, how did they make it?” local artist Lisa Kersy said. Many sales from this shopping weekend will be shifting towards the web this weekend for Cyber Monday.
