Former Mt. Juliet police sergeant arrested on theft charges
MT. JULIET, Tenn. (AP) – A former Mt. Juliet police sergeant already heading to prison on federal fraud charges is now being charged by the state.
Media outlets report 40-year-old Jason Ezell was arrested Thursday by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation after being indicted on two counts of theft and one count of official misconduct.
Ezell pleaded guilty to federal program fraud and wire fraud charges in July. He was sentenced to six months in prison and one year of supervised released for filing for more than 500 hours of overtime he didn’t work, earning $14,180.
TBI investigators later determined that Ezell was also responsible for taking $1,600 in missing funds from the Mt. Juliet Police Department.
Ezell, a 16-year veteran of the department, was fired in May. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.
