Commissioners approve settlement in Madison Co. nurse lawsuit
MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — The County Commission approved a settlement in a lawsuit against the county during their Monday morning meeting.
Two former nurses at the Criminal Justice Complex filed suit claiming between August 2013 and this August that they were not compensated for overtime, for being on-call and for lunch hours they had to miss.
The commission voted to pay a combined $32,000 to the women, but more money was set aside as well.
“These plaintiffs alleged that there may be other employees of the county who are also eligible, specifically at the correctional facilities, and so per the terms of the agreement the county set aside a pool of money to resolve those claims if they are made,” Madison County Attorney Steve Maroney said.
The county has set aside an additional $300,000 for future lawsuits that could follow this settlement.
