Weather officials confirm Wed. tornado in Selmer
McNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn. — The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado did go through Selmer on Wednesday night.
The same tornado’s trail reportedly spanned from eastern Arkansas through Mississippi and into Hardeman and McNairy counties in West Tennessee.
A preliminary rating by an NWS damage survey team determined this tornado at least at some point classified as an EF-3. The service says the tornado, described as having an exceptionally long track, will take days to fully assess.
The EF scale ranges from 0 to 5. An EF-3 tornado is categorized as having 136-165 mph winds and as causing “severe” damage, including destruction of homes.
