Lady Bruins off to best start in school history

JACKSON, Tenn. — USJ’s girls basketball team isn’t concerned with their No. 3 ranking in the state and having a 21-1 record.

The team wants their wins to count when it matters most.

“The past two years we’ve lost that first round,” junior Anna Jones said. “That’s been one of the things pushing us because we don’t want tUSJ Girls Beat TCAhat to happen again.”

Head coach Tony Shutes has over two decades of coaching experience on the Lady Bruins’ sidelines.

This is the best start for any USJ girls team in school history.

“Last year, we were so young. We’ve had  a lot of players develop and get better,” Shutes said. “We have one outstanding player in Anna [Jones], who has expanded her game.”

Last season’s offense relied heavily on Jones. That’s not the case anymore.

“One of our big things this year is everyone do their job,” Jones said. “We have so many different ways to score this year than last year.”
