Officials say Fort Campbell veteran’s death ruled homicide

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Officials say the death of an Army veteran whose body was found in a wooded area of Middle Tennessee has been ruled a homicide.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Sandra Brandon told The Leaf-Chronicle (leafne.ws/1TB0JUm) on Wednesday that the state medical examiner’s office said 30-year-old Melissa Sue Napier was a homicide victim.

Napier’s body was discovered in a wooded area of Palmyra in December by a hunter. She had been reported missing on Dec. 8 by her brother.

Napier served four and a half years in the Army, including two tours in Iraq working as a chemical operations specialist. She had been based at Fort Campbell, a sprawling Army post on the Kentucky-Tennessee line. She was living in nearby Clarksville when she disappeared.

Brandon said the investigation into Napier’s death is continuing.
