Henry Co. Helping Hand yearly auction nears final week

HENRY COUNTY, Tenn. — A local tradition that’s lasted more than 30 years is wrapping up soon for the 2016 season.

Helping HandThe Helping Hand of Henry County’s annual auction will end next Wednesday. Their last Saturday auction is this weekend.

The money raised from the auction assists more than 80 local groups in Henry County such as the Henry County Food Bank and the volunteer fire departments.

“Every day it’s cakes and pies and casseroles and cookies and craft items and stuff — it’s just amazing that we can raise that kind of money with those types of items. It’s just wonderful,” Helping Hand volunteer coordinator Sheila Stigall said.

The auction starts Saturday at noon and will last into the afternoon.

Last year, the auction raised more than $300,000. As of Friday morning, more than $294,000 has been raised this year.
