Knoxville Girl Scout troop offering drive-thru cookies

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Girl Scout cookie fanciers in Knoxville have the opportunity to pick up a few boxes without even getting out of their cars.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports about nine girls from Troop 28018 were setting up a drive-thru cookie stand Saturday in the parking lot of a local furniture store.

Sarah Callahan is a spokeswoman for the organization’s Southern Appalachians Council, which covers 46 counties. She said the troop leader wanted to make the cookie-selling experience unique for the girls.

Although Girl Scouts have been taking cookie orders since January, Friday marked the first day of the three-week sale that funds the Scouts throughout the year.

Callahan said the girls have been practicing for the sale by learning how to accept money, count change and interact with customers.
