Highway patrol stops yield large drug seizures on I-20

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – The Mississippi Highway Patrol says its officers made two separate traffic stops on Interstate 20 that resulted in the discovery of large amounts of drugs.

On Friday afternoon, the Highway Patrol says its officers stopped a tractor-trailer truck hauling passenger cars. The agency says officers found marijuana, cocaine, and heroin in one of the vehicles being hauled. The agency says it found about 10 pounds of marijuana, 1.1 pounds of cocaine and 9.3 ounces of heroin.

On Saturday morning, the agency says its officers stopped a sport utility vehicle and found 19 pounds of a purified form of crystal methamphetamine in a false compartment in the vehicle. Two people from Texas were arrested.

Both stops were made on I-20 in east Rankin County.
