Grammy Museum opens in Mississippi Delta

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – The second and only official Grammy Museum outside of Los Angeles opens Saturday in the Mississippi Delta, cradle of the blues.

Bob Santelli, executive director of its sister, the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, says organizers chose Cleveland, Mississippi, to honor the Delta’s rich music history.

Mississippi claims the most Grammy winners per capita in the world. The rhythmic guitar and soulful ballads of bluesmen like Robert Johnson and B.B. King have inspired nearly every style of American popular music from jazz and hip-hop to rock n’ roll.

Promoters call the $20 million project technologically advanced, with interactive technology that lets visitors record and produce their own blues songs. The museum opens to the public Saturday with special weekend events planned.
