Pope Elementary students bring book characters to life

NORTH JACKSON — It was a day to remember for hundreds of local students as they brought their books to life by dressing up as some of their favorite characters.

Pope Elementary Character ParadeStudents at Pope Elementary School got a break Friday from wearing their usual school uniforms and instead brought the characters they’ve read about to life.

Friday’s “Character Parade” was part of the school’s celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America Week.

“As Dr. Seuss said, the more you read the more you know, and the more you know the smarter you become, so I hope that will help our children to want to read more and it just helps them to grow as they get older,” librarian Laura Walker said.

Guest readers are visiting schools throughout the month to read their favorite books in hopes of encouraging students to read.
