Moody wins Howell Trophy, Vivians wins Gillom
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Mississippi guard Stefan Moody won the Howell Trophy and Mississippi State guard Victoria Vivians won the Gillom Trophy on Monday at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.
The Howell is given to the state’s top men’s college basketball player. Mississippi State’s Gavin Ware and Quinndary Weatherspoon were also finalists.
Moody and Vivians won their respective awards for a second straight season.
The 5-foot-10 Moody leads the Southeastern Conference with 23.1 points per game. His marquee game was a 43-point performance in a win against Mississippi State last week.
The Gillom is given to the state’s top women’s player. Ole Miss’ Shandricka Sessom and Delta State’s Chelsey Rhodes were also finalists.
The 6-foot-1 Vivians has helped lead No. 16 Mississippi State to a 26-7 record so far this season.
