3 Biloxi officers on leave after police shoot man on bridge
BILOXI, Miss. (AP) – Biloxi police say three officers are on administrative leave while the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation looks into a fatal shooting.
Chief John Miller tells the Sun-Herald they were among officers who answered calls from drivers who saw a man with a gun Thursday on the Popp’s Ferry Bridge. Gulfport police and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office also responded.
Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove says 37-year-old Wesley Sheppard died on the bridge. He would not say how many times Sheppard was shot.
It was not clear whether Sheppard fired any shots, or how many shots police fired.
Miller says Gulfport police investigated the crime scene and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation.
It’s the third shooting this month by Mississippi Gulf Coast police.
