JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – A new study finds that DeSoto County remains the healthiest county in Mississippi, while Coahoma County is considered the least healthy.
The report was released Wednesday by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute. It found that DeSoto, Rankin, Lamar, Madison and Lafayette counties are the state’s healthiest, based on longevity and quality of life.
The report named Coahoma County, Jefferson County, Holmes County, Sharkey County and Humphreys counties as Mississippi’s least healthy.
The study also ranked each county on other factors including tobacco use, diet and exercise and access to medical care.
