Local library works to help children master reading

HENRY COUNTY, Tenn. — The public library in Henry County is working to help children in their community master reading.

Henry Co Reading initiativeThe W.G. Rhea Public Library has inaugurated the “Read to be Ready” program for Henry County.

The program helps make sure all students finishing third grade can read at a third grade level.

The library is asking all places of worship in the community and other organizations to help.

“Be aware of the people in their congregations that are having trouble reading — this is adults too, but mainly focusing on parents of small children and infants to 3 years old,” Library Director Connie McSwain said.

The goal of the program is to raise awareness about the importance of reading, especially to young children.
