TBI adds suspected kidnapper to Most Wanted list
ROGERSVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has added a man accused of kidnapping his niece to their Top Ten Most Wanted list.
Gary Simpson is wanted by the Rogersville Police Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for especially aggravated kidnapping, according to a TBI release.
Simpson is accused of signing 9-year-old Carlie Marie Trent out of school May 4 and then disappearing with her.
Simpson, 57, is an uncle by marriage to Carlie. He is described as a white male with brown eyes and brown hair and is balding. He stands five feet 10
inches tall and weighs about 157 pounds.
Carlie is white with blonde hair and blue eyes, about 4 feet, 8 inches tall and weighs about 75 pounds.
Authorities say they have received no credible sightings of Carlie, Simpson or the vehicle Simpson was reportedly driving.
The two are believed to be in a white 2002 Dodge Conversion van with Tennessee registration 173GPS. The van has a dark stripe down the middle with light gold running boards and has paint chipping off the hood.
TBI agents and intelligence analysts reportedly have worked to coordinate and verify more than 1,200 tips from 19 states.
The TBI says Simpson shopped at Wal-Mart before the incident and bought child-sized clothing and camping gear.
