Ridgeland Police: Woman dies after collapsing during race
RIDGELAND, Miss. (AP) – A woman who collapsed while running a race in Ridgeland has died.
Ridgeland Police Chief John Neal tells news outlets that 42-year-old Donna Stamps suffered a medical emergency while running the Magnolia Meltdown race Saturday morning.
Neal says medical personnel responded to the scene and initiated CPR. Stamps was then transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Madison County Coroner Alex Breeland said Stamps died of natural causes. An autopsy will not be performed.
The Magnolia Meltdown is listed as a half marathon, a 10K, a 5K and a one-mile race.
