County departments present budget needs to commissioners
JACKSON, Tenn. — Commissioners in Madison County met with department leaders Thursday to hear what they need for the coming year.
“That’s the best we can do right now — trying to satisfy all the needs we’ve got,” Madison County Fire Chief Eric Turner said.
Turner says his department is in need of two trucks and a pumper truck to put in a new station that is soon to be built. Chief Turner says the trucks they have now are more than 20 years old and that each have hundreds of thousands of miles on them.
“[I] was trying to hold off on community meetings until after this to know. I didn’t want us to have a building and not have something to put in it,” Turner said.
The committee approved a total of $2,232,000.
Those approvals include some library improvements and repairs for Jackson Rabies Control. The sheriff’s department is also selling one of their vehicles to the county IT department.
