Report: 3 dead after train-pickup collision in Flora

FLORA, Miss. (AP) – Emergency responders say an Amtrak passenger train and a pickup truck have collided in Flora, a small town in the southwestern corner of Madison County.

Authorities told WLBT-TV that at least three people, including two toddlers, are dead. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the Wednesday evening accident, but would not confirm any deaths, saying the Flora Police Department is investigating. The police chief was not immediately available for comment.

Amtrak spokeswoman Christina Leeds, in an emailed statement, says the City of New Orleans, headed to Chicago, hit the vehicle about 6:11 p.m. She says there were no injuries to the crew or the 127 passengers aboard.

She could not confirm whether anyone in the vehicle was injured, saying local authorities would have to provide such information.
