School system honors educators, names ‘Teacher of the Year’

JACKSON, Tenn. — Dozens of teachers from across the Jackson-Madison County School System were celebrated Friday at the STAR Center.

Dane Weaver took home the title of this year’s top teacher. Weaver is a 12th grade government and economics teacher at South Side High School where he’s been a teacher for five years.

Both Weaver and South Side received a check for a thousand dollars.

“You know, I’m just representative of South Side,” Weaver said. “I appreciate the award — it’s absolutely incredible — but the goal is always to educate the kids to the best of my abilities.”

Also at the ceremony, awards were presented for building-level Teachers of the Year.
