Tennessee nursing home closing after being decertified
LIMESTONE, Tenn. (AP) – An East Tennessee nursing home is closing after federal and state regulators ordered the removal of all government-insured patients.
The Greenville Sun reports the John M. Reed Health & Rehabilitation facility in Limestone was closing on Friday. The action comes on the heels of the Tennessee Department of Health and federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services decertifying the facility due to deficiencies in patient care.
James Wheeler, an attorney for the nonprofit nursing home, says the home was in the process of terminating changing management contractors when it learned of the decertification late last year.
He says the number of patients dropped to three after the facility was decertified, which made it unfeasible to keep operating. He said the last patients were relocated prior to the final closure.
