Madison Co. Budget Committee talks school projects
JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson-Madison County school board officials met with county commissioners Monday to once again discuss looming budget concerns.
The hot topic of Monday’s Budget Committee meeting was the funding of several maintenance projects at area schools. With the district asking for nearly twice its allotted funds, officials are at odds on where that money should come from.
“With the Vision 2020 savings by closing five schools, is there any money in their general purpose fund that they could use for, let’s say, technology, for painting, for other things that aren’t what I would term with ‘hard capital projects?'” Budget Committee Chairman Doug Stephenson said.
Officials will gather again next week to discuss other options and steps moving forward.
