Men facing murder charges in Jackson shooting appear in court
JACKSON, Tenn. — Two men accused in a deadly shooting at an apartment complex in west Jackson faced a judge Thursday.
“Mr. Jones is charged with first-degree murder,” Jackson City Court Judge Blake Anderson said.
Cornelius Jones and Cedric Evans appeared Thursday in Jackson City Court, both shackled and in jail jumpsuits.
Both men are charged with first-degree murder. They are accused of gunning down Mondarrius Miller at The Villages at Old Hickory Apartments in January.
The judge moved Jones’ court date back two weeks to give him time to hire an attorney.
Anderson ordered that Evans undergo a forensic evaluation. Evans’ attorney, who did not want to talk on camera, said that is to make sure he is competent and sane.
Miller’s family attended Thursday’s court proceedings but did not want to talk on camera.
Jones and Evans both are being held without bond. Jones is scheduled to return to court at 9:30 a.m. June 16.
