Leadership Jackson awards scholarships to local standout students
JACKSON, Tenn. — Five Jackson-Madison County students were celebrated Friday for going above and beyond what is asked of them in the classroom.
The Leadership Jackson Alumni Association presented each of the students with a $1,000 scholarship to put toward their college expenses.
The Judy Renshaw Scholarship was named in honor of Renshaw in 2013 to commend her 35 years of heading up the Leadership Jackson program.
“Part of our scoring system looks at how are these young people giving back to the Jackson community beyond their academic accolades,” scholarship committee member Chris Ramey said. “So we want to reward them for their academics, for their community service, for their leadership in their school.”
The scholarships are funded through dues to the association and gifts.
