5 train cars derail in Amory
AMORY, Miss. (AP) – Burlington North Santa Fe officials say they hope to reopen the main line through Amory by midnight.
Spokesman Joe Faust says 40 railcars were being pulled northbound on the track when five derailed around 1:30 a.m. Monday.
WTVA-TV the train was carrying automobiles when the incident happened. No one was injured and no hazardous materials spilled in the crash.
BNSF crews began arriving around 4 a.m. to begin the process of clearing the railcars and getting the track reopened. Heavy equipment companies from Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee, are also at the scene to help reseat the train.
In total, five cars and a locomotive derailed in the incident.
An investigation is underway, but so far no cause has been determined.
