MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Police say funeral arrangements have been set for a Memphis officer who was run over and killed by a suspect who was trying to evade police after shooting three people.

Memphis police say visitation services for Officer Verdell Smith are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Hope Presbyterian Church.

The church host the funeral service for Smith on Friday at 11 a.m. Burial is scheduled to take place after the funeral service at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Authorities say Smith died Saturday night after he was struck while trying to clear pedestrians from the area near Beale Street. Police say he was hit by 21-year-old Justine Welch, who is accused of shooting three people before leading officers on a vehicle pursuit.

Welch has a scheduled court appearance on Wednesday.
