Holiday scrooge strikes early, steals Gulfport’s decorations
GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) – Authorities say someone has stolen holiday decorations from the city of Gulfport.
City spokesman Chris Vignes tells WLOX-TV that a city storage site was recently burglarized three times in two days. The city is doing an inventory to determine exactly what was stolen.
A council member tells the news station that up to $80,000 worth of lights and equipment is believed to have been stolen. Councilwoman Ella Holmes-Hines says an average person wouldn’t know how to use the stolen items.
The inaugural Harbor Lights Winter Festival was held in 2015, and city leaders called it the beginning of a new holiday tradition. Councilman Rusty Walker says the 2016 festival isn’t in jeopardy.
