Meridian site for Mississippi Children’s Museum proposed
MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) – Supporters of the first-ever satellite location for the Mississippi Children’s Museum are proposing it be built in Meridian at Bonita Lakes Park.
WTOK-TV reports supporters presented their proposal Tuesday to the Meridian City Council. The proposed structure would include 9,500 square feet of exhibit space situated on four acres of land.
Liz Wilson, site selection chairwoman for the group, says a study conducted by Mississippi State University projected that there would be 51,000 visitors a year to the museum.
The group’s top choice for the museum is at Bonita Lakes Park.
Members of the capital campaign for the project are asking the city council to grant a memorandum that’ll allow them to start preliminary surveys of the property. Council members are expected to vote on the request Aug. 12.
