Lane season kicks off

JACKSON, Tenn — The Lane Dragons kicked off the season early Tuesday afternoon with their media day and team pictures. Head coach Derrick Burroughs got a chance to show off his new additions on the coaching staff

to the media. He welcomes in a slew of new coaches, one primarily on the offensive side of the ball. Shephard Skanes has brought in a new smash mouth down hill type of running game to the Dragons offense. Skanes said his players are going to work hard and in the long run, will score a lot of points.

When asked which side of the ball would be the stronger part of the team, coach Burroughs joked and said if it was up to him, it would be defense, also because he coaches that group. But said he expects both sides to be really good, but he does have a talented group of players returning on the defensive side.

The Dragons finished last season 3-7, but look to improve on that mark this season. Burroughs had some choice words about his teams pre-season rankings.

“Every year they always make these predictions about Lane College and they always have us last,” said Burroughs. I” guess justifiably so until we start beating some of the people on top of the food chain then maybe some of those predictions are correct. But hopefully we will have some surprises for them this year.”

He did say in the press conference that he’s not into predictions, but they will be a better team this season. Starting with the CME Classic September 3, against Texas College.
