Florida woman charged with TennCare fraud in Memphis
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Federal prosecutors say a Florida woman has been charged with fraud in a 197-count indictment that alleges she billed TennCare for counseling services that were not performed.
The U.S. attorney’s office said Friday that 45-year-old Daphne M. Chaisson of Orlando, Florida, owned two businesses that gave counseling, including psychiatric diagnostic evaluation and psychotherapy, mainly to adolescents.
From August 2009 to January 2014, prosecutors say Chaisson used personal information of her licensed counselors without their permission to obtain TennCare provider numbers and bill Tennessee’s Medicaid program for medical services that weren’t performed. Prosecutors say she used the identity of minors who were her patients without their consent.
The indictment issued Thursday includes charges of health care fraud and aggravated identity theft. Court records do not show if she has a lawyer.
