TDOT to rename Middle Tenn. highway as Interstate 840

NASHVILLE — Across the state, a Middle Tennessee highway that took more than two decades to complete is getting a new name.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation says it has received approval from the Federal Highway Administration to designate State Route 840 as Interstate 840.

The change was requested to encourage more economic growth along the corridor and more traffic diversion around Middle Tennessee.

TDOT will begin installing I-840 signs next week and expects the work to be complete later this year.

The highway was completed in 2012.
